Prioritizing the Components of Intellectual Capital in Technology-based Organizations Using the FGAHP Method

Abstract: In today’s knowledge-based economy, the importance of intellectual capital management and reporting in different organizations is clearly apparent. Despite that, there is still no consensus about the indicators that can be appropriately utilized for management and reporting of this capital. Since such indicators are related to the components of intellectual capital, if these components are accurately prioritized, it will be possible to provide suitable measurement and reporting indicators for the intellectual capital of organizations. Therefore, the present study aimed to present a proper approach for prioritizing the components of intellectual capital in the technology-based organizations, which mainly rely on technological subjects when exploiting their business opportunities. For this goal, the key components and dimensions of intellectual capital in these organizations were primarily investigated through performing an extensive literature review and conducting a number of expert interviews. Afterward, according to the obtained components and dimensions, a pairwise-comparison questionnaire was designed and distributed among several industry and university experts, who possessed a complete knowledge about technology-based organizations. After collecting the questionnaires, the components of intellectual capital were prioritized using the Fuzzy Group Analytical Hierarchy Process (FGAHP) method, which is one of the Multiple-Attribute Decision Making (MADM) models. The prioritization results revealed that according to the opinions of experts, the components of human capital are of the highest importance in such organizations and the next important components are the ones for social capital and structural capital. Therefore, it can be concluded that in technology-based organizations, special attention must be paid to human capital and the necessary arrangements must be made for its continuous improvement
